Create a Tornado Days Tee!

Create it. Print it. Celebrate your town. This summer, Kingold Studios is teaming up with Geez Louise Printing for a week-long hands-on Screenprinting Camp where high school students will work in creative teams to design one of three limited-edition Tornado Days shirts for the community! In celebration of both Centerville’s beloved Tornado Days and America’s 250th birthday, campers will collaborate to create bold, original patriotic and community-inspired shirt designs that will be available for public purchase. Campers will form teams of up to 3 students per design and spend each day working together through the full apparel creation process — brainstorming themes, sketching ideas, developing layouts, experimenting with typography and preparing artwork for screenprinting. Students are welcome to work traditionally (draw it yourself!) or digitally — campers choosing digital design should bring their own laptop or iPad to use programs such as Canva or Adobe. This camp will take place entirely at the Geez Louise storefront, giving students an immersive real-world studio experience while learning the screenprinting process from start to finish. Campers will learn how to expose screens, layer designs (up to 2 colors), align prints, and hand-print their shirts professionally. On the first day of camp, students will select shirt styles and ink colors before beginning the design process. Throughout the week, each team will develop and print one of three featured Tornado Days shirt designs that will be released as a limited apparel drop leading up to Tornado Days. A portion of proceeds from shirt sales will go directly to the local Centerville Arts Council to help fund future arts programming and creative opportunities within the community! All screenprinting inks, screens, and printing materials are included in the camp cost. (Students should plan to wear clothes on printing days that they wouldn’t mind getting ink on!) This camp is perfect for students interested in art, graphic design, branding, fashion, entrepreneurship, community events, or anyone excited to experience a collaborative creative environment while making something meaningful for their town.
