Design it. Print it. Wear it. This summer, Kingold Studios is teaming up with Geez Louise Printing for an exciting hands-on Screenprinting Camp where high school students will create their very own custom matching apparel set! Throughout the week, campers will design and screenprint a personalized sweatshirt and sweatpants set while learning the full creative process behind wearable art and apparel design. This camp will take place entirely at the Geez Louise storefront, giving students an immersive studio experience while working directly alongside the screenprinting process from start to finish. Campers will spend the week brainstorming concepts, sketching ideas, planning layouts, experimenting with typography and graphics, and preparing artwork for printing. Students are welcome to work traditionally (hand drawing!) or digitally — students choosing digital design should bring their own laptop or iPad to use programs such as Canva or Adobe. On the first day of camp, students will select colors and order their matching apparel sets before beginning the design process. Camp tuition includes one baseline Gildan sweatshirt and sweatpants set; students who choose upgraded apparel brands or styles may have an additional cost depending on their selections. Throughout the week, campers will learn the screenprinting process from start to finish, including exposing screens, layering designs (up to 2 colors), aligning prints, and hand-printing their own apparel pieces. All screenprinting inks, screens, and printing materials are included in the camp cost. (Students should plan to wear clothes on printing days that they wouldn’t mind getting ink on!) This camp is perfect for students interested in art, branding, fashion, graphic design, or anyone wanting to try a completely new creative medium in a fun studio environment.
